Chemistry Brought us together

My girlfriend Tracy Scott and I decided to get out to chill. We landed at Smoke Chemistry, a new black owned cigar bar in Arlington. Unbeknown to us, this particular Friday night, 11/21/25 was Alpha Phi Alpha kickback night. The place was overrun with Alphas. We sat at the last seats at the bar on the patio and had a good view of all going on around us. Some sports event was on, but I don't remember what it was at this time. The DJ was nice and we were relaxing. Some nice Alphas seated at the bar would engage us in casual banter every now and then. They were married and being total gentlemen. One of their brothers decided to come occupy (waste) our time. He talked for an hour or so about himself (said it was Alpha night ). He stood in between both of us, so one really couldn't tell who he was zeroing in on.Neither one of us were interested, we were just being polite. I went to the bathroom and upon me coming back into the area, a nice, tall, good smelling man stopped me and asked could he meet me. He was dressed in white shorts, a Nike white shirt, and a white Nike hat. He was tall tall...like 6'6. I introduced myself to him and he to me. He said his name was Mike. ok Mike. He said he noticed me across the room and thought I was really beautiful, so he wanted to meet me. So ok, we met. I stood there and was like, OK.......is that all you wanted to do was meet me???He said yes, and I was hoping we could exchange numbers. I would like to get to know you. So I glanced at his phone as he was opening it and saw a beautiful, colorful Lion. I said you wouldn't happen to be a Leo would you? To which he enthusiastically said Yes, I am the King of the jungle. An August Leo! with distinction. With bravado and with a touch of arrogance. This I loved, as I too am an August Leo. So I shared, I am an August Leo as well. and there is a difference between July and August Leos. To which he agreed. He asked me my date of birth and I proudly said the 17th! His face filled with shock, and he walked away from me. Turned around and came back, taking his wallet out his pocket. He asked me to turn my cell phone light on and look at his drivers license. I noticed his last name was Jones, I looked at as much as I could focus on quickly, LOL. But his date of birth was August 17th . Well I be! Our birthdays are the same day!!! 4 years apart. Never met someone with my same birthday. Honestly, it was like a chemistry connection was made immediately and we chatted for a spell. Exchanged numbers and then I returned to my area. He said he was going to call me so we could go out. I said ok and thought, ok, we will see. Tracy and I were ready to make our exit and as we were leaving, i said to his buddies that he was with, please tell Mike I said bye. to which Chris said oh no, you wait right here. You can't leave . Huh? He and Ice wouldn't let me leave until he returned back. They called him on his cell. I was like all that isn't necessary. They said nope, you cannot leave until he comes back. Chris spoke into his phone, "call MJ". He came back in and proceeded to walk us to our car. He asked me to call him when I made it home. I dropped Tracy off around the corner and proceeded home. Mike called me before I could exit off Cooks. We proceeded to talk for another hour or so. He had gone to his car to talk to me and left his buddies in the place. He asked me out on our first date for the next day on Saturday. Our first date was at BJ's Brewhouse and then we went to shoot pool. We had an amazing time and the sparks began to fly! We talked everyday and met again at Glorias one day after I left the rehab visiting mom. Most of our dates were spent talking. Talking about everything. I invited him over Thanksgiving night and we have been inseparable since!

This is why I choose Freddie as my Best Man. 

We met 25 years ago, and to this day he has been a true brother.  Even though he is not my biological brother, within my heart I value him as we have created a brotherhood that can never be broken . Freddie is a good leader, he gives good advice and is very understanding.  He’s not a judgmental person.  We have had our ups and downs, but our brotherhood will never be broken. 

I am honored that God crossed our paths on this life’s journey.  Freddie will give you the shirt off his back.  He’s an upstanding guy.

Freddie loves to spend time with his horses, watch sports and loves to dilly dally in the kitchen.  He is an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and even has Dallas Cowboys paintings on his truck.  Silver and blue all the way for this native of Dallas, Texas. 

I chose Freddie to stand up with me at this special moment because he truly a good brother.  I couldn’t ask for a better friend.

Freddie Runnels

Dr. Jasmin Aki is my fabulous Aries daughter.  The oldest of the Ying and Yang. The Alpha to my Omega and my first born child.  

Jasmin has been with me the longest, 33 years. I was 24 when I had Jasmin and in a disjointed marriage with her father.  I worked three jobs when Jasmin was small to make ends meet. I didn't have the luxury to "baby" her.  She is my independent baby, that I taught responsibility and a hard work ethic to.  She was a fast learner and very smart.  Jasmin was potty trained at 2 and started school.  She just finished school for 31 years last month with a Doctorate degree.  She has been accomplished all of her life being active in groups, sorority, school, sports, community activities and church.  

Jasmin is the faithful wife to Anthony Alexander, dedicated mother to my grandson Andrew and soon to be on the scene Adam.  She is the CEO & Owner of Elevated Wellness.  She is a LICENSED Professional Counselor (LPC).  A 2026 Doctorial Graduate of Arizona State University.  She is MY LEGACY as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and a Bonafide Believer in Christ. 

Dr. Jasmin Aki James- Alexander

Jaun is the CEO/Owner of Jus'Relax Catering and Events, based in Little Elm, TX.  She is also a Travel Consultant for Virgin Cruises.  More importantly, she is my best friend that has been by my side, front and back since 1996.  Jaun hails from New Orleans, Louisiana.  She is the only child of the late great Mrs. Rowena Barber Edgefield.  Jaun is the wife of Frederick Robinson, for the last 22 years.  She is the proud member of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc. Life member and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Denton County Chapter.  Jaun and I met at the Pontiac City hall in Pontiac, MI.  We became friends and I invited her to a GPD interest meeting.  She became my Soror and trusted friend in 1997.  We have been rocking ever since.  She is my confidant, prayer partner, former babysitter and official roommate.
